West Brom won’t miss Grady Diangana as ex-Albion star struggles in LaLiga with Elche
West Brom allowed Grady Diangana to leave last summer on a free, but he’s struggled during his first season with LaLiga side Elche.
Diangana first joined West Brom on loan from West Ham in the summer of 2019, before making his Hawthorns move a permanent one the following summer.
Penning a five-year deal in B71, the versatile midfielder both dazzled and disappointed during his time with Albion.
At times, the DR Congo international scored some brilliant goals and banked a couple of very good seasons for the Baggies, but also endured campaigns that saw him make little impact too.
So, how is he doing with Elche since leaving West Brom, and will James Morrison be wishing he had him in his team right now?

How Grady Diangana has done in his first season with Elche
Some Albion fans will’ve been surprised to see Diangana get a move to a top European league following his Hawthorns exit, but that he did.
Joining Spanish LaLiga outfit Elche on a two-year deal in August 2025, the 27-year-old hoped for a fresh start on the continent, as he left English football for the first time in his career.
| Diangana’s final 24-25 season at Albion | Result |
| Appearances (league only) | 34 |
| Goal contributions | 7 |
| Minutes per game | 44 |
| Big chances created | 5 |
It presented an exciting and big opportunity for Diangana, but so far, he hasn’t quite been able to take it for the newly-promoted Spanish top flight side.
He’s made 17 LaLiga appearances for Elche this season, with 11 of those coming as starts, and he’s averaged just 45 minutes of action per game.

As detailed in the above graphic from Sofascore, Diangana has played 1.03 key pass per 90 this season, made just the one goal contribution and is taking 1.72 shots per game.
The midfielder has missed one big chance in the league this term, is averaging just 0.06 goals per game, has created only one big chance and averages 24.5 touches per 90.
He’s also recording a crossing accuracy of 18 per cent, made one error leading to a shot, given away a penalty and has completed only 26 per cent of his dribble attempts successfully.
Diangana has been deployed all across the forward line by Elche this season, but he’s not been able to make much of an impression, with his team also struggling in their first season back in LaLiga.
Elche currently sit just one point above the relegation zone in 17th, but they were able to snap a 12-game winless run in all competitions last time out, beating 18th-placed Mallorca 2-1 in a huge relegation six-pointer on 21 March.
Diangana wouldn’t get into current West Brom team
Despite West Brom’s own struggles this season, Morrison is now turning the Baggies’ fortunes around, with back-to-back wins over Hull and Bristol City respectively.
Morrison is currently deploying a 4-4-2 at The Hawthorns, and to their credit, both Isaac Price and Jed Wallace have drastically improved their performances on the flanks in recent weeks.
Therefore, Diangana wouldn’t be getting in the starting lineup over those two, and up top, Aune Heggebo and Josh Maja are now starting to build a strong strike partnership.
So, if Diangana was available to West Brom and Morrison at the moment, it’s probably safe to assume he wouldn’t be getting in the starting XI ahead of a crucial relegation run-in for Albion.
