West Brom’s Championship relegation chances shift in latest supercomputer prediction

West Brom’s 1-0 away win over Bristol City on Saturday has further boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Championship.

George Campbell scored the only goal of the game for the Baggies, powering a header home from Callum Styles’ corner in the 26th minute.

The result moves West Brom up to 19th place in the table, as they sit four points clear of the drop zone with seven games left to play this season.

With Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United and Leicester City all failing to win, Saturday afternoon couldn’t have gone any better for James Morrison‘s side.

And the Opta Analyst supercomputer has made a much more positive prediction about their Championship status.

What is the latest West Brom relegation prediction?

With Sheffield Wednesday already going down to League One, it looks as though five teams will be fighting to not finish in one of the two remaining relegation places.

After the Baggies beat Hull City 3-0 last week, they had a 46.26 chance of being relegated, but that figure has drastically dropped after the win at Ashton Gate.

According to Opta, The Hawthorns outfit have now reduced their chances of being relegated to 16.98 per cent.

Opta’s predicted Championship League table

Oxford United and Portsmouth are now predicted as the sides that will go down, with expected points tallies of 48 and 49.

Based on Opta’s figures, the Baggies will avoid the drop by three points, which shows how fine the margins are.

With seven games to go, a lot can change, but consecutive wins under Morrison have certainly eased the fears of many fans who were convinced that they’d be watching League One football next season.

A lot of credit must go to the interim head coach, who is thriving in the hot seat and getting the best out of the players.

Why James Morrison has proven he has what it takes to keep West Brom up

When it was confirmed that Morrison would take charge until the end of the season, fans weren’t entirely sure that it was the right move.

The ex-Baggies midfielder has no real managerial experience, but his love for the club is clearly showing in the way he’s motivating his squad.

West Brom were unfortunate not to secure all three points against Southampton and Sheffield United over the last month, but they have been duly rewarded in their last two matches for performances that showed how much quality the players have.

Under both Eric Ramsay and Ryan Mason, the team was lacking confidence, but Morrison has reignited the belief around B71 that West Brom have enough to stay up.

No other manager knows the Black Country outfit as well as him, and if the Baggies can continue to perform as they did against Hull City and Bristol City for the remainder of the season, then they’ll definitely steer clear of relegation.
