West Brom PSR charge: Jeff Stelling predicts ‘Horribly messy’ points deduction scenario
West Bromwich Albion could create problems even if they do avoid a points deduction this season.
Reports emerged on Monday that the Baggies have been charged after allegedly breaching profit and sustainability rules in the EFL for last season.
That has prompted fears of a potential points deduction as James Morrison’s side continues to fight in the Championship relegation battle.
The Albion claim that there is no wrongdoing to speak of and believe they are fully compliant with the financial rules.
A confusing situation is unfolding for West Brom, but that hasn’t stopped Jeff Stelling questioning what could happen in B71 and beyond.

Jeff Stelling concerned about West Brom avoiding points deduction
There is no hiding from the basement battle in the second tier as the Baggies sit just two points above the relegation zone at this stage.
Things have certainly turned around under Morrison, and it looks as if his side can avoid the drop into League One with four games to go.
| Stat | James Morrison |
| Matches | 9 |
| Wins | 3 |
| Draws | 5 |
| Losses | 1 |
That would all be thrown into doubt if the EFL decide to deduct points from the Baggies, just like they did with Leicester City.
All options have been assessed by fans since the reports emerged of a potential breach, with Ally McCoist left pretty baffled live on talkSPORT.
He said: “It’s amazing. The ramifications of the timing of the potential points deduction are equally as important as anything in this scenario, judging by where the club is and the other clubs around them are.
“It’s an absolutely unbelievable scenario to be in at this moment in time.”

Stelling joined the conversation to reveal his fear of what may happen if West Brom don’t face punishment before the end of this campaign.
The host added, “It becomes horribly, horribly messy if it rolls into next season. Then, of course, if there is a points deduction, I don’t know if they’ll be open to some sort of comebacks from the sides who have been relegated.”
West Brom’s season could be hampered by a points deduction, and they are now waiting on news of a potential blow.
West Brom could face three points deduction
The Baggies may deny any reports of a financial breach, but it has been suggested that they have broken the rules by a small amount.
That will have an impact as the punishment will match the breach and could mean that a reduced deduction could be utilised.
Stepping beyond the rules by £2m would result in a three-point penalty, while a £4m breach would be met with a four-point deduction.

That would drop the Baggies into the relegation zone at this stage, but only if they are found guilty of any wrongdoing by the league organisers.
All West Brom can do now is win as many of their four remaining games as they can.
