Max O’Leary: West Brom future up in the air as Anthony Patterson transfer eyed
Max O’Leary is out of contract at West Bromwich Albion at the end of the season.
Depending on the outcome of Albion’s potential points deduction, Championship football looks set to be played at The Hawthorns once again next season.
James Morrison has worked wonders to make that a reality, but several players have also proved their worth in the recent run, with O’Leary one of them.
Since signing a short-term deal with West Brom, the 29-year-old has kept eight clean sheets in 19 Championship appearances, sparking many to beg for a new deal.
However, O’Leary’s future looks set to take another twist with the Baggies looking to bring in Anthony Patterson from Sunderland.

West Brom face competition for Anthony Patterson
Patterson has been linked with West Brom in the past, though it was Millwall who eventually won the race for his signature.
Since moving there on loan, the Black Cats star has impressed and has played a crucial role in a season that looks likely to end in promotion for the Lions.
| Championship | Patterson |
| Games | 12 |
| Clean sheets | 5 |
| Saves | 29 |
| Goals prevented | 0.66 |
A report from The Chronicle states that Alex Neil’s side are keen on making his deal a permanent one, but the Baggies and Hull City have also shown an interest.

However, if a deal were to be pursued, it would more than likely spell bad news for O’Leary, who may be allowed to leave the club.
Would Patterson be an upgrade for West Brom?
The stats certainly suggest so, and his age would also be a factor.
At 25 years old, Patterson still has years ahead of him, with the Baggies in need of some long-term stability in between the sticks.
The Sunderland star has a 72.5 per cent save percentage this season, which is considerably better than O’Leary’s 67.3 per cent.
It would be a good move for the Baggies, but they will face some fierce competition to bring him to The Hawthorns.
