Callum Styles: West Brom’s Player of the Season?

Callum Styles has undoubtedly been one of West Brom’s most consistent players this season.

West Brom look almost certain to be a Championship side again next season, which should spark a huge sigh of relief for many who thought relegation was destined.

James Morrison has done a remarkable job to ensure they retain their league status with two games to spare, with the Baggies now just looking to set themselves up for what will hopefully be a much better campaign next time out.

With that said, there are still games to be played and awards to be handed out for the current campaign, with voting already underway for Albion’s Player of the Season.

And Styles, having played a crucial role for West Brom, should be right up at the top of the nominations.

Callum Styles’ season by the numbers

Styles isn’t the player who can get you off your seat, nor is he the type of player who emerges with rave reviews after a solid performance.

But that is the nature of his role in the team, which he has certainly excelled in.

The Hungary international has had a hand in three goals for the Baggies this season, but having created 36 chances in the Championship, he could easily have had more.

Of those 36, eight of them have been deemed as big chances, which ranks him among the top 13.7 per cent of Championship defenders.

With a total of 249 defensive contributions, Styles has also more than played his part in keeping the goals out, with only 4.3 per cent of defenders in the Championship having made more tackles than him.

The 26-year-old is certainly in with a big shout of being named West Brom’s Player of the Season, and if so, it would be fully deserved.

When will West Brom’s Supporters’ Player of the Season award be announced?

With voting underway for the award now, Baggies fans have until 3pm on April 24 to submit their vote.

The award will be presented pre-match on Saturday ahead of the Ipswich Town clash at The Hawthorns, with all players who have made at least 10 appearances nominated.

Given the turnaround under Morrison, it should be a momentous occasion, and for the first time in a while, a game to look forward to.
