Krystian Bielik has been a forgotten man at West Bromwich Albion recently.

James Morrison has masterminded a stunning turnaround that has seen the Baggies confirm their Championship survival with two matches left to play.

However, the 28-year-old, who was signed last summer, has not played much of a part in that success, with injury woes.

The Polish defender has missed the last nine league games after undergoing shoulder surgery in March and could be out until after the season concludes.

West Brom will look forward to his return to action, whenever that will be.

What is Bielik’s situation at West Brom?

Bielik signed a three-year contract with West Brom when he linked up with The Hawthorns side.

That deal is set to run until the summer of 2028, at the very earliest, meaning that he is tied down to the West Midlands side for two more seasons.

Therefore, an exit does not look likely anytime soon for the former Birmingham City star, given the length of his contract.

What has Morrison said about Bielik?

Morrison confirmed that Bielik could miss the reason of the season on 20 March, before the clash with Bristol City.

In quotes reported by the club’s official website, he said: “Krystian has ended up having surgery.

“He was pushing it and there was a little bit more damage, so we felt it was best that he got the surgery.

“We’re hoping he might get back, but we’ll have to wait and see or reassess.

That sounds like he is not too confident that the player will feature again in the current campaign.

How has he performed this season?

Bielik has been solid at the back for Albion, when he has played this season.

He has featured 17 times in the Championship, for a total of 941 minutes, according to data from Fotmob.

The 11-cap Poland ace has averaged 2.01 tackles per game, 2.01 interceptions per game, 4.21 ball recoveries per game and 5.36 clearances per game.

In terms of duels, he has won 60.9 per cent on the ground and 66.7 per cent of aerial battles that he has contested, which is a brilliant rate for both metrics.

If he can return to full fitness, he could be a very valuable asset for the Throstles over the new two seasons.

A decision on a new contract will depend on how he performs in that time, and whether he can stay on the pitch and get rid of the injury issues.
