West Brom: Crystal Palace stance revealed as James Morrison wants Danny Imray as first transfer

James Morrison is keen on bringing Crystal Palace loanee Danny Imray back to West Bromwich Albion next season.

There wasn’t a great deal of fanfare when West Brom secured the services of 22-year-old defender Imray on loan in January.

Questions were then asked of the club’s recruitment after he made an inauspicious start to life at The Hawthorns.

But Imray has proven to be a very astute acquisition, with the full-back putting in a string of impressive displays in West Brom’s push to Championship safety.

West Brom fans want Imray to extend his stay, and Morrison agrees as he closes in on his permanent appointment at The Hawthorns.

West Brom have hope over Danny Imray signing

So far, Imray has made 15 appearances for West Brom, scoring one goal, adding two assists, and keeping a whopping nine clean sheets.

He has started on 12 occasions, with his goalscoring display in a 3-0 win against Watford a particular highlight.

Imray has just over 12 months left on his deal at Selhurst Park, but he still awaits his first-team debut.

The former Blackpool loanee is seemingly no closer to dislodging the likes of Daniel Munoz from right wing-back at Palace, but Nathaniel Clyne’s contract is set to expire this summer.

Now, according to West Brom insider EyaWeGew, Morrison wants to retain Imray, either on loan or on a permanent deal.

Palace are said to be open to letting him go, but they will want a right-back replacement, while Imray is keen on the switch.

West Brom would naturally be thrilled to retain him, but Palace may have a bit more interest in his services after his Midlands stint.

James Morrison nears permanent role

While Imray has come on leaps and bounds in recent months, head coach Morrison has been West Brom’s signing of the season.

The 39-year-old has had two very short caretaker roles at West Brom before, but nothing on this scale.

When he took over, they looked destined to drop into League One. Now, though, they are safe and are on a 10-match unbeaten run.

West Brom are now set to give Morrison the position permanently on the back of his stellar work. and few would say he is not deserving of the appointment.

Whether he can maintain this momentum into next season remains to be seen.
