Report: West Brom want £20million for Sam Johnstone

West Brom will demand £20million to part ways with influential goalkeeper Sam Johnstone this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The report claims that is the substantial fee Albion will demand from interested parties in the event of relegation from the Premier League.

West Brom are expecting offers for the 28-year-old with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham all sniffing around for his services, though a move to the former would complicate the fee as Manchester United have a sell-on clause of around 15% after selling him to the Midlands side in 2018.

Johnstone has been one of the club's stand-out performers this season despite their struggles.

Only Sheffield United (80) have shipped more goals than West Brom's total of 65, but the shot-stopper has been in imperious form and has prevented that figure from being even worse.

BBC pundit Gary Lineker has been one of many plaudits for Johnstone this season, calling him "sensational" on his personal Twitter profile in February after yet another crucial save.

Take the money and run

Johnstone has been brilliant for us, and we'd be even deeper in the mire without him, but if we can get a fee in the region of £20million for him we should bite the buying club's hands off and scour the market for his replacement.

It's been his finest campaign in an Albion shirt since he joined but that sort of figure is probably excessive given his overall contribution.

But his recent call up to the England squad may have added a few million on, while reliable Premier League goalkeepers can be tough to come by.

For us, though, it could offer vital funds to freshen up the squad to mount an assault on the Championship title.

We already have an experienced Championship performer in the goalkeeping ranks in David Button, while Alex Palmer will be expected to return from his Lincoln City loan and compete for the number one jersey.

Losing Johnstone would hurt, but it wouldn't be a catastrophe and at £20million, could be a good move for all parties.
