Tottenham look set to greenlight the departure of Ryan Mason as West Brom talks continue.

The search for a new manager continues to rumble on at The Hawthorns, but appears to be taking small steps closer to completion.

It appears that the Spurs coach has emerged as the favourite for the Baggies despite not having landed an appointment at this stage.

With talks continuing in the Black Country, the Lilywhites look set to help Albion take a step closer to naming Mason as their new head coach.

Mason to be released at Tottenham for talks

After the departure of Tony Mowbray, the need for a new face in the dugout has become increasingly necessary as the summer window looms.

Shilen Patel will be keen to get this next appointment right, especially after the last cost his side a place in the Championship play-offs.

With that being said, it appears that a risk is being taken to appoint the Lilywhites' coach, as opposed to a more experienced option.

Now, BBC Sport have reported (30 May) that discussions are well underway with Mason, with all parties remaining positive over a potential deal.

The 33-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of June, so if the B71 club want him to start work immediately, they will have to negotiate a release from North London.

This isn't expected to be an issue with Spurs, with Albion required to make a formal approach to allow him to depart before the end of his current deal.

West Brom must agree Tottenham deal for Mason appointment

An agreement between the two clubs is a requirement if the Black Country outfit wants to hire the Englishman before July begins.

This is going to be likely so that Mason can have a say on work in the transfer market as he looks set for a first season as a first-team manager.

Ryan Mason Tottenham career

After a coaching career already lasting over seven years, there is no doubt that he has positive experience under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

It will now be interesting to see if the Lilywhites allow their coach to exit early and what that means for his future and potential move to The Hawthorns.
