Aston Villa coach Mark Naylor raves about Alex Palmer after West Brom win v Preston

Mark Naylor was full of praise for West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer after the Baggies won 2-0 against Preston North End on Thursday (30 December).

Okay Yokuslu scored in either half as the Baggies secured their seventh win in their last eight games, but Naylor, the current Aston Villa youth goalkeeping coach, was particularly impressed with Palmer.

Naylor was previously the goalkeeping coach at the Hawthorns, and he played his part in the 25-year-old's development at the club.

"Great to be back at West Brom tonight. A pleasure to watch Alex Palmer perform with so much composure," wrote Naylor on Twitter.

Play-off dreams

Wow! This is some turnaround. Amid dark and gloom about the club’s insecure financial status, the only thing the Baggies got it right this season is the appointment of Carlos Corberan. 

The Spaniard has weaved magic at the club since replacing Steve Bruce in October. We always felt that the squad was good enough for a promotion challenge, but Bruce made it look like we’re a league one side. 

Without any new faces coming in, Corberan simply got the best out of what he has at his disposal, and now the club have moved within a point of the Championship play-off spots. 

The Baggies were really impressive almost throughout the game as they created loads of chances. The team is playing with flair and great energy and confidence are overflowing on the side. 

Palmer produced a compact performance as the Baggies have now kept three clean sheets in their last four games.
