Daryl Burgess has reacted after footage emerged of a fight breaking out during a pre-season friendly between West Brom and Mallorca.

Carlos Corberan's side faced the La Liga team on Saturday 27 July, with Antonio Sanchez scoring the only goal of the game to condemn the Baggies to their third loss in four matches.

That was not the main talking point, however, as Jayson Molumby was seen lashing out at Mallorca's No.12, Samu Costa, punching the player before a whole fight broke out on the pitch.

Reacting to the footage via X on Saturday (27 July), Burgess - a former West Brom player - simply wrote: "Boom!"

West Brom clash with Mallorca in pre-season

Of course, the club will condemn any of the actions of the West Brom players, especially Molumby's involvement in the situation.

But, with someone such as Molumby, there will likely be an explanation for his reaction on the pitch, having missed 26 matches, or 147 days, through injury last season.

While the Republic of Ireland international is known for picking up quite a few cautions throughout a season, he is not a violent player so there must be more going on that fans cannot see in the footage.

Whatever happened, it will still be a disappointing moment for Corberan, with West Brom travelling around the country and representing the club during pre-season.

It is also not the best preparation ahead of the 2024/25 campaign after missing out on promotion to the Premier League last term, with this being the team's third loss in four games.

The Baggies' only pre-season victory has come against Peterborough United, which has been sandwiched between losses against Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool, and now Mallorca.

No one will be condoning the actions of Molumby, but there is certainly more to the story than what is being spread around social media like wildfire.
