Daryl Dike may have said farewell to West Brom after post-Sheffield Wednesday scenes

Daryl Dike may have played his last game for West Bromwich Albion after his side's 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 25-year-old came on at half-time at Hillsborough and put in a typically combative and muscular display as he tried to haul West Brom back into the game.

The United States international was unable to do that but that should not detract from his positive form in recent weeks.

Dike finished the season with just two goals in 24 Championship appearances; however, they came in his last four outings.

Striker Dike is out of contract at West Brom this summer, and heading into the final weeks of his current deal, it remains to be seen where his future lies.

The last goodbye for Daryl Dike?

Dike joined West Brom in January 2022 for around £7million after a productive year that included a loan at Barnsley and with parent club Orlando City.

However, the start of what would become a worrying trend followed when the American suffered a hamstring injury, followed by a knee tendon problem.

Dike barely played in 2022 and in April 2023, he suffered an Achilles tendon injury in his right leg that sidelined him for nine months.

In February 2024, a similar injury, this time in his right leg, kept him out for a year and then he started this season with a thigh issue.

The 6ft 2in forward has undoubted quality. But a return of 11 goals in 65 matches just isn't good enough.

He simply cannot stay injury-free, and West Brom cannot really rely on him. And is what Lewis Cox of the Express and Star spotted at Hillsborough is anything to go by, a parting of the ways may be on the cards.

He stated that Dike was the last Albion player to depart the travelling fans at Hillsborough, perhaps in a final goodbye.

Many West Brom supporters want him to stay but this may be the end of a chapter filled with empty pages of what might have been.

Big decisions for James Morrison and West Brom

If West Brom's loss to Wednesday was the last outing for many Baggies players, it won't be the best game to go out on. But heading into the summer, a big squad turnover is on the cards.

New head coach James Morrison is likely to be involved in deciding whether the likes of soon-to-be out-of-contract players like Josh Maja stay or go.

Dike, Karlan Grant, Jed Wallace, and Max O'Leary are in the same boat, while West Brom may try to sign loanee Danny Imray permanently from Crystal Palace.

West Brom have to be careful financially, so big earners like Dike, Grant, and Maja may leave. If they do, the club's hierarchy needs to get their recruitment spot on to help Morrison and the Baggies push on next term.
