Don Goodman reacts live on Sky Sports to West Brom penalty incident v Preston

West Brom should have been awarded a penalty in their 1-0 defeat to Preston at Deepdale on Wednesday night, according to ex-striker Don Goodman.

Earlier in the second half, Grady Diangana seemed to be hauled to the ground by Jordan Storey, who looked as though he grabbed a handful of the Albion winger's shirt.

However, despite Albion's protests, referee Josh Smith didn't feel as though a foul had been committed.

Sky Sports pundit Goodman disagreed and felt West Brom were unfortunate.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (5 October, 09:13pm), Goodman said: "He's claiming, you can see there, his shirt is being pulled.

"Jordan Storey does haul him back. He's a lucky boy. There's the pull.

"I tell you what, it's difficult for the referee.

"Look at the referee's position here, he's got a great view of that.

"He clearly doesn't think it's enough [to be a penalty].

"I think Jordan Storey is a lucky boy there."

Stonewall penalty

EFL referees are shocking, aren't they?

If they ever do introduce VAR to this level of the game then it surely cannot oversee worse decisions than we currently have because Albion have been robbed of multiple stonewall penalties this season.

And that was one of them.

Diangana was yanked back by Storey, who only had hold of the winger's green-and-yellow-striped shirt.

It would have been a just reward for Diangana, who was easily the best West Brom player on the pitch at Deepdale.

He constantly posed a threat to the Preston defence throughout the game, looking the only Albion man capable of being able to do anything in the attack.

If just one other West Brom player played as well as Diangana did, we would have won that game.

It's just a shame that penalty wasn't awarded.

But, then again, Karlan Grant would have probably missed it based on his form from the spot.
