Don Goodman shares new West Brom promotion verdict as Leeds United claim made

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

West Brom have as good a chance as ever to earn promotion to the Premier League this season, according to Don Goodman.

The Baggies sit fourth in the Championship after nine rounds of matches, two points adrift of the automatic promotion spots.

Carlos Corberan's men have taken just one point from the past six on offer, but Goodman fancies their chances of going up this term in a league he considers weaker than last season.

"Looking at the Championship, I'm not seeing a Southampton, Leicester or Ipswich and therefore it represents an opportunity for West Brom and others to go up," he told West Brom News.

"Leeds are the only team I can see going on a roll but beyond that, I can't see who else can do so.

"Carlos would have analysed the situation, looked at the players at his disposal and fancied having another go this season."

West Brom should aim for automatic promotion

Nobody truly knew what to expect from West Brom before a ball was kicked this season, but we know have a clearer indication of what to expect.

Thanks to Corberan, the Baggies once again look equipped to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League.

The top two is a big aim, of course, but the early signs have been positive - even accounting for this three-match winless run.

With a trip to Oxford United next up, three points from that match could potentially have the Baggies back in the automatic promotion spots.

There is a long season ahead, but Albion have the best coach in the division and supporters will remain positive of going one better than last season.
