Craig Shakespeare is a candidate to become the new manager for the West Brom Under-23s side, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper claims that Shakespeare was in the stands at The Hawthorns on Monday night when Albion beat Swansea's Under-23s 2-0 in Premier League 2.

Michael Appleton vacated the Under-23s manager role at The Hawthorns in September to take charge of League One side Lincoln Town but a return for Shakespeare now appears to be on the cards, 11 years after he last left the Black Country club.

Shakespeare has played for the Baggies, been an academy coach at The Hawthorns and was even caretaker manager for the first-team for one game before Tony Mowbray was hired.

The 56-year-old, who lives in Lichfield, has since held coaching roles at Leicester, Hull, Everton and England.

For a brief period, he was also the permanent manager at Leicester after an impressive spell as caretaker boss in the aftermath of Claudio Ranieri's exit.

Shakespeare would, without doubt, be a great appointment for West Brom's Under-23s side based on his previous history with the club and the fact that he has a really great CV that properly suits him for the role.
