West Brom 'in danger' of Grady Diangana free transfer as Mowbray claim made

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman believes that Tony Mowbray could provide Grady Diangana with a fresh start at West Brom with comparisons made to Carlos Corberan.

Diangana has had a perhaps frustrating time at The Hawthorns with his immense quality unable to shine through consistently.

The ex-West Ham attacker was mooted for a January exit, although that never materialised and he will spend the remainder of the season with the Baggies and Goodman, when speaking to West Brom News, thinks that he could be set for a revival.

"Grady strikes me as the kind of player that needs to be playing in the right type of team and for the right head coach, as we call them now," said Goodman.

"I think it was Slaven Bilic that got the best out of him. Slaven was more similar in his ethos to Tony Mowbray than Carlos Corberan, where there is an element of defensive structure, the defensive work. And Grady's more than happy and more than capable of doing that.

"Tony Mowbray's arrival at the club could give him that new lease of life because I think he was in danger of his contract running down in the summer and maybe not being offered another one.

"We've always known it, but we've got somebody whose confidence seems to go through peaks and troughs and things seem to need to go right for Grady Diangana, for you to see the best of him."

Grady Diangana should shine for West Brom under Tony Mowbray

Mowbray has only been in the door for a matter of weeks and yet Diangana has already put in arguably his best performance in a West Brom shirt, having registered four goal contributions in the win against Portsmouth.

While he was unable to have much of an influence against Plymouth, Mowbray could be the perfect manager to get his confidence back to its best and get him playing at the top level of his game again.

If that can be achieved, Dianagan can play a huge role for the Baggies and aid them in their push for a top-six finish come the end of the campaign.

There is a long way to go yet, but West Brom are in an excellent position to do just that. but finding consistency within their performances could prove to be the deciding factor as to whether or not they are able to achieve that.
