West Brom star Jayson Molumby failed to impress for the Republic of Ireland against England on Saturday 7 September.

The Boys in Green fell to 2-0 defeat in the opening game of their Nations League campaign against the Three Lions thanks to first-half strikes from Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.

The Baggies midfielder featured across the full 90 minutes but the national press weren't sold on his performance with the online outlet Balls.ie rating the former Brighton man as a 5/10.

They were less than complimentary of his showing, saying: "Molumby offered little other than intensity to Ireland's game, sloppily running the ball out of play and turning into blind corners on several occasions.

"His presence on the field could best be described as 'chaotic'."

The Irish Daily Mail rated him were slightly more complimentary of the Albion man, rating his showing a 6/10.

They said: "Had some reasonable moments, colliding into tackles, thieving possession and nearly scoring from a third-minute header.

"But outclassed, like every other Irish player."

Molumby started the clash but was unable to make a proper impact against a top-class England side.

The Albion man had a typically energetic showing but this proved useless in the midfield up against the quality of Lee Cardsley's men.

The 25-year-old failed to impose himself with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Angel Gomes and Rice featuring for the away side.

It was always going to be a difficult ask for the Baggies star to perform against the quality that England possess and he did struggle at times.

With a clash coming up against Greece, Molumby has a chance to show his quality for Ireland before returning to The Hawthorns.

Carlos Corberan will be hopeful that the midfielder can return on top form ahead of a trip to face Portsmouth in the Championship.

The Irishman will be hopeful that the Baggies can maintain their form with him in the engine room.
