West Brom star Jed Wallace has hailed the Baggies' staff, supporters and players in his immediate reaction to the playoff defeat to Southampton.

The Baggies' season came to a disappointing end as they were beaten 3-1 by Russell Martin's Saints at St Mary's on Friday (17 May) with Cedric Kipre's late header proving to be little more than a consolation.

Wallace started the clash as the lone centre-forward but was substituted having struggled to get involved in proceedings, but the Albion skipper was quick to insist his attention is already towards next season.

Writing on X on Sunday (19 May) he said: "Thank you to all my brilliant teammates, staff and most importantly our fans for your support throughout the season.

"As a group, we gave everything we had all season but ultimately fell a bit short to the better team on the night.

"We will come back stronger next season and try to go one better."

Will Jed Wallace leave West Brom and The Hawthorns in the summer transfer window?

As Wallace suggested, the Baggies were beaten by the better side on the night at St Mary's. While that will be disappointing, Albion can hold their heads high following an excellent Championship campaign.

Nobody expected Carlos Corberan's side to be anywhere near the playoffs this term before a ball was kicked and while they were still slightly inconsistent in the final weeks of the season, they went above and beyond all expectations.

Hopefully, under the management of Corberan and the ownership of Shilen Patel, West Brom will be able to kick on during the summer transfer window at The Hawthorns and recruit well to go one step further next year.

It won't be easy, but the Baggies have already shown that they can be a competitive force in this division and there is absolutely no reason that they can't win promotion to the Premier League next season.
