Karlan Grant sends message to West Brom after return in Charlton draw

Karlan Grant didn't take long to return to The Hawthorns after leaving for Charlton this summer.

The experienced attacker was given the green light to leave West Brom upon the expiry of his contract.

With options open, Grant returned to his first club, Charlton.

The English winger was among the Baggies record signings when arriving from Huddersfield in 2020.

Signing initially in the Premier League, it simply never worked and that continued into the Championship after relegation.

But, he was a liked figure and that was shown upon his return on Wednesday.

It wasn't a great night for James Morrison and Co.

After a difficult start to the season but picking up positive results mainly, Charlton at home was a chance to pick up momentum.

Taking the lead through Callum Styles after an hour, things looked good.

Tyreece Campbell equalised 10 minutes later, though, and that's how it finished with a 1-1 draw disappointing.

Grant started the game, and played an hour until he was taken off in a drastic triple substitution from Nathan Jones.

Taking to Instagram, the winger sent a message to those at The Hawthorns.

"Good point away from home," he wrote. "Nice to see so many familiar faces.

"All the best for the rest of the season, WBA."

How did West Brom replace Karlan Grant?

With Mikey Johnston injured for the start of the season, wingers haven't been freely available.

Morrison has played four across midfield, with Isaac Price and Harry Whitwell starting on the flanks most frequently.

New signing Kareem Tunde started against Charlton, but was dragged off at half-time after initially struggling.

It takes time to settle into the English game, especially the second-tier, so he will get better with each weke.

Now that the transfer window has shut, Morrison knows what he's working with and this squad will only benefit from that.

It's out with old and players like Grant, with a new era now in full swing at The Hawthorns.

West Brom fans will always wish him well for the future, but it's all about progression with what they now have.
