West Brom have got off to a fantastic start to their Championship campaign, but Ryan Mason will be eager to further strengthen his squad.

Wins against Blackburn and Wrexham currently see the Baggies occupying third place in the league table, and whilst some may feel this is too lofty an expectation for them to keep up, Mason's side have been tipped to finish in the top six come the end of the season.

West Brom's forward line has been particularly impressive, with Isaac Price starting the new season on fire, whilst Aune Heggebo looks to be acclimatising well to English football.

However, this Albion forward line could get even more exciting if they can bring Southampton striker Ben Brereton-Diaz to The Hawthorns.

West Brom and Sheffield United interested in Ben Brereton-Diaz signs

Against Wrexham, Mason proved he already has good squad depth in the attacking areas, with both Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace making an impact off the bench.

  • Johnston got two assists off the bench against Wrexham
  • Wallace, who was assisted by Johnston, scored in the 74th minute

Mason has been full of praise for Wallace, claiming the Albion captain will have a massive role to play in their promotion push this season.

Another player who would help West Brom's promotion push would be Brereton-Diaz, with reports from Sports Boom on 20 August suggesting that Sheffield United and West Brom are set to battle it out for the 26-year-old.

  • The report also suggests that Middlesbrough have made a tentative enquiry for the Chilean international.

The 26-year-old has previously spent two loan spells in South Yorkshire with Sheffield United, so it would be up to Shilen Patel and Co. to persuade the former Blackburn man to make the move to the Black Country.

Middlesbrough are another side credited with an interest in the Southampton attacker.

Brereton-Diaz would massively boost West Brom's attack

With Daryl Dike and Josh Maja's well-known injury issues, and Devante Cole simply not good enough for this level, it is clear a new striker is needed by Mason.

With Brereton-Diaz being able to play across the frontline as well as having a wealth of Championship experience, Mason would have a player who is proven at this level ready to lead the line.

Despite not being a regular starter for Sheffield United last season, Brereton-Diaz managed to record four goals and three assists whilst averaging just 58 minutes per game.

If Mason could guarantee him gametime and get him firing, the new Albion boss would have a squad more than capable of returning to the top flight.
