Victor Osimhen has described West Brom defender Semi Ajayi as a "warrior" after his performance in Nigeria's penalty-shootout win against South Africa on 7 February.

Nigeria have now qualified for the final of the Africa Cup of Nations as a result of the victory, where they will face the Ivory Coast, with Osimhen taking to Instagram to praise Ajayi for his display at the back.

The Napoli striker has become one of the most recognisable names in the game and has been linked with a money-spinning Premier League move, with a £112million release clause said to be in his current contract amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. [talkSPORT]

Ajayi's performance also drew credit from Nigerian media, with All Nigeria Soccer giving him an 8/10 rating, describing him as the standout player for the Super Eagles, while Soccernet were also full of praise.

West Brom's defender has been a key part of his country's progression through the tournament, with the goal conceded against South Africa putting an end to a four-game winning streak which he has played a huge part in.

That defensive solidity has been the basis upon which Nigeria have built their play, ensuring they do not give away too many opportunities and taking theirs when they come with the superstar Osimhen up front to provide the goals.

Carlos Corberan is likely to be counting the days until the defender returns to The Hawthorns, despite impressive performances from both Cedric Kipre and Kyle Bartley in his absence, as they look to solidify their playoff place as we approach the closing stages of the season.

Given the performances of his replacements, it may be easy to forget the level Ajayi has been playing at this season, and Corberan will be pleased to see him return - hopefully with a winners medal in hand.
