West Brom could announce Tony Mowbray as their new manager before this weekend, according to John Percy.

The Telegraph reporter shared (16 January) that should talks continue to progress the way they have so far, Mowbray could be in place before the Albion take on Stoke City on Saturday (18 January).

It would seal an emotional return to football for Mowbray after he was forced to step down at Birmingham City in early 2024 due to a bowel cancer diagnosis, with the all-clear given since.

West Brom close to unveiling Tony Mowbray as manager

If all goes smoothly, Mowbray will return to The Hawthorns for the first time since leaving for Celtic in 2009.

The 61-year-old knows the club and the division inside out, having enjoyed the successful campaign in 2007-08 with the Baggies, and has shown himself to be astute with promising players in his squad.

Albion fans will know better than to decide the deal is done too early, having only this week seen a move to appoint Raphael Wicky collapse at the last knockings over backroom staff issues.

The board at The Hawthorns will be relieved to complete the appointment process after Carlos Corberan left for Valencia on Christmas Eve, with Chris Brunt having taken interim charge since.

West Brom are competing directly with the likes of Mowbray's hometown club Middlesbrough for the top six in the Championship this season, and the anticipated new manager will take his new side to the Riverside on Tuesday (21 January) should all go to plan.
