West Brom fans have reacted with glee to the news that former Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston is on the verge of joining the club permanently.

The Baggies have reportedly agreed a £3million fee with Celtic to bring Johnston back to The Hawthorns before the 30 August transfer deadline [Lewis Cox, 28 August], after he spent the second half of last season on loan.

A medical was scheduled for Thursday (TalkWBA, 29 August) after Albion beat fellow Championship sides Burnley and Sheffield United to an agreement with the 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international.

After Johnston netted seven goals and added two assists in just 20 appearances for the Baggies last season.

Fans praise West Brom board after 'exciting' Mikey Johnston news

It's fair to say that the reaction to Johnston's imminent return to The Hawthorns has been one of universal praise, with much of that praise aimed towards Carlos Corberan and Albion owner Shilen Patel.

One fan called Johnston's re-signing a "statement of intent by Shilen Patel", stating that the Baggies chairman "completely appreciates" what Corberan's ambitions are at The Hawthorns.

Another said that he "100 per cent" had trust in the vision shared by Patel and Corberan this summer, and looked forward to what Johnston would bring to the club's current attacking stocks.

The 2024 summer transfer window has gone "way beyond expectations" according to another Albion fan, who said that the club are currently experiencing "very exciting times" with the signing of Johnston.

With one fan adding to that by saying; "this window has been the best in years", another was wary that Johnston's arrival may result in star youngster Tom Fellows being sold amid interest from Southampton [DOOD, 27 August].

The clear message from Baggies supporters, however, is one that doffs the cap to Patel and Corberan for their ability to get this statement signing over the line, and is looking forward to the season ahead.
