West Brom fans have reacted positively to the news that Liverpool coach John Heitinga could be their replacement for Carlos Corberan.

The Spaniard's departure was announced on Christmas Day as Valencia met the compensation clause in his Baggies contract.

The former Everton defender is currently a part of Arne Slot's Premier League table-topping Reds' coaching team and has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite for the vacancy at The Hawthorns.

The Dutchman is the 5/2 favourite to succeed Corberan, according to BettingOdds.com.

Heitinga news encouraging for West Brom fans

The Albion faithful seems to be excited by the potential appointment, one supporter commented on X, saying: "Of all the names suggested so far, Heitinga is the one that excites me the most. Purely based on the fact no one knows anything about him."

Another agreed, saying: "Sounds exactly the kind of higher risk; higher reward type that we should be looking at. His record in management looks ok (if short) and obviously highly rated by Slot and Moyes."

One thing is for sure, the Baggies must get their next appointment right, otherwise Corberan's work will have been for nothing.

The Spaniard had taken Albion from relegation struggles to playoff contenders despite a lack of financial stability due to the poor management of Guochuan Lai.

However, it is a new era under Shilen Patel's ownership and once the financial shackles have been released, the new manager can make a fresh start.

If the Baggies get their appointment right, it could accelerate Corberan's progress and take them to the promised land of the Premier League.
