West Bromwich Albion's 2025-26 season is not long finished, but already preparations are in full swing for the next campaign.

Albion finished the last season just one place above the Championship relegation zone in what was a campaign to forget.

However, the manner in which the Baggies ended the season under James Morrison does provide some hope for the future.

And West Brom fans won't have long to see their team back in action, with pre-season due to begin later this month.

Before the competitive action starts in August, Albion will first have some friendlies to play, the latest of which is now known.

West Brom lock in Peterborough United friendly

There are still two more months before West Brom return to Championship action, with the 2026-27 season beginning on the weekend of the 14 August.

While a number of friendlies have still not been locked in, West Brom announced on Monday that there will be a clash with Peterborough United on 1 August.

That clash with the League One side will be played at Weston Homes Stadium a week before the Baggies begin their Carabao Cup campaign.

Teams usually reserve those final friendlies for higher-profile home fixtures, but that is not the case for Albion.

Reacting to the announcement on social media, a number of West Brom fans also aired their displeasure at the lack of overseas fixtures to attend.

"Announce Valencia away," another commented.

Another went with: "Give us somewhere abroad."

What type of other friendlies can West Brom fans expect?

Judging on recent seasons, Albion will likely play four or five other friendlies.

The fact the EFL Cup kicks off ahead of the new season for the first time, on a dedicated weekend, effectively shortens the summer break.

Albion started their pre-season fixtures against Port Vale last summer, before drawing with Dynamo Kiev in Austria and then playing three more games in England.

A home clash with Europa Conference League runners-up Rayo Vallecano concluded things, but that final friendly slot will be slightly less glamorous this time.

Supporters will now await any further details regarding other fixtures over the coming days.
