West Brom in talks with Wolves for new January transfer already

West Brom have held talks with Wolves over a possible loan deal for young prospect Dexter Lembikisa as the Midlands club could recall him, as per TEAMtalk.

The news website reported [30 December] that Wolves are open to recalling the 20-year-old early from his season-long loan with Rotherham United amid interest from clubs higher up in the Championship table.

It is understood that Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Norwich are also among those clubs interested in a loan deal for the Wolves full-back after impressing with the Millers.

The defender scored his only senior goal for Rotherham in their first win of the season but with his loan club sitting at the bottom of the Championship, Wolves are looking at other possible loan moves to gain more experience.

Weighing up the options

At the young age of 20, Lembikisa has already made 14 appearances for Jamaica as well as four senior appearances for Wolves. There are no doubts about the youngster's talents but the club are hoping to find some higher quality experience for him.

Of the four teams in prospective talks with the Midlands club, West Brom and Middlesbrough are in the top half of the Championship table which could give them the edge over Norwich and Blackburn in the decision over Lembikisa's next loan.

He has missed just one game for the Millers since making the switch in the summer, appearing as a substitute in only three of Rotherham's 25 league games this season.

It is a case of, if you are good enough, you are old enough. The Wolves academy graduate has found his feet quickly in an extremely difficult season for Rotherham, with 17 points from a possible 75 and 48 goals shipped in 25 matches.

The only problem with the player moving to West Brom is the possibility of game time ahead of Daniel Furlong. Even if Carlos Corberan were to deploy him at centre-back, which he is capable of playing, he is unlikely to replace Cedric Kipre and Kyle Bartley.

In other West Brom news, a lack of any update on the takeover situation could prove a cause for concern.
