Matty Longstaff is set to move to Scottish side Aberdeen despite being linked with a move to West Brom, according to Sky Sports.

Per their Transfer Centre [26/08/21, 10:52pm], the Newcastle United midfielder is in talks with Aberdeen and is set to join on loan before the window shuts.

Sky claims that West Brom, Stoke and Sheffield United are all keen, but look set to miss out on the 21-year-old.

West Brom

Should've got him

The Baggies are thin on options in the middle of the park and should've done everything they could to sign the Newcastle player.

With Romaine Sawyers' departure, they're looking extremely thin in midfield and given Valerien Ismael's style of play, he will be needing to count on more players towards the business end of the season.

Last year, West Brom were in the Premier League so did not have a problem in attracting players from fellow top-flight clubs on loan, but the Championship may lead to many not fancying a move to the Hawthorns.

The likes of Conor Gallagher and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are both at Premier League clubs now, with the former leaving for Crystal Palace on loan.

West Brom

Longstaff would've been a quality addition as he's someone who can control the tempo of games, but also score the spectacular - making something happen out of nothing.

He scored on his Premier League debut against Manchester United, and The Guardian's John Brewin labelled him "superb".

It remains to be seen what sort of business West Brom do from now until the end of the window, but a midfielder is the need of the hour.

In every other department, Ismael's side look well stacked up, but they desperately need a midfielder or two before August 31.
