West Brom send scouts to track Motherwell defender Max Johnston ahead of summer transfer window

West Brom reportedly sent scouts to Scotland on Saturday to track Motherwell right-back Max Johnston who they want to sign in the summer.

According to the Scottish Sun [03 April], Luton Town, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers are the three other clubs that also had representatives attending the game to watch the 19-year-old in action.

The England-born defender's deal runs out at the end of the season and he is unlikely to sign a new contract with an exit being on the cards.

The SPFL operates at a similar level to the Championship and Johnston will be a decent addition to this first-team squad.

Even if the Baggies secure promotion, he's only 19 and can be signed as backup option for the present and a first-team player for the future.

Any club in this promotion battle signing him will benefit a great deal from his services in the summer regardless of if they manage to secure a Premier League berth or not.

Hopefully, the Baggies step up their efforts to sign him as he's certainly a defender who can add value to this side and be a real asset for Carlos Corberan.

He has been representing Scotland at the youth levels so there's a very good chance that he decides to play for them at the senior level too.

As he has Scottish heritage, he is eligible despite the fact that he was born in Middlesbrough back in 2003.
