West Brom are set to suffer a major setback in their pursuit of a new manager amid the news coming out of the Championship.

Despite the Baggies sacking Tony Mowbray almost a month ago, there still hasn’t been a permanent appointment at The Hawthorns.

Numerous names have been linked, with Ryan Mason remaining the favourite for the West Brom job.

In recent weeks, more names have been linked, with Russell Martin emerging as a candidate at the Baggies

However, West Brom’s pursuit has just taken a major blow as another Championship side are set to sack their manager.

Hull City are set to sack Ruben Selles

There are currently multiple vacancies in the Championship. As well as West Brom, Norwich City and Cardiff City are looking for a new manager.

On top of this, Southampton are yet to appoint a new head coach ahead of their upcoming second-tier campaign.

This has provided some issues for the Baggies, with many of these sides looking at similar candidates.

A few weeks back, it was thought that both Norwich and West Brom were racing to get QPR’s Marti Cifuentes, but these links have since died down.

Now, the Baggies will likely face more competition as Hull City prepare to sack Ruben Selles.

According to Hull Live (15 May), the Tigers are set to sack their manager this week despite guiding them to Championship safety.

Hull vacancy could spell trouble for West Brom’s pursuit of Ryan Mason

Mason is currently the most likely manager to take over at The Hawthorns. However, this recent Hull City twist could put a spanner in the works.

The Tigers have gone for upcoming English managers in the past and gave Liam Rosenior his first full-time role before he was sacked at the end of last season.

On top of this, Mason has connections with Hull City, with the East Yorkshire outfit being his last club before he retired.

Therefore, the Tottenham assistant manager may be more inclined to go to Hull compared to the Baggies if given the option.

Hopefully, West Brom sees this and quickly speeds up their hiring process to avoid potential clashes of interest with other Championship sides.
