West Brom: Torbjorn Heggem's late stunt backfires as Norway crash out of World Cup vs England
West Bromwich Albion fans saw a familiar face in Torbjorn Heggem as Norway went up against England on Saturday.
The Three Lions faced off against Stale Solbakken's side with a place in the World Cup semi-final on the line.
It was certainly a nervy encounter in Florida and that was only made worse when Andreas Schjelderup opened the scoring.
His cross-come-shot deceived Jordan Pickford and went in off the post, leaving Thomas Tuchel and Co. with a mountain to climb.
Jude Bellingham went on to net an equaliser before half time with a superb run and finish.
That is how it stayed until normal time was finished, with Bellingham's second sealing a 2-1 win, but Heggem did still manage to make himself look quite silly.
Torbjorn Heggem gamesmanship failed vs England
It is always great to see a former Baggies man performing at the highest level like this.
The 27-year-old is now at Bologna and has forced his way into becoming a first-team regular for his country.
That saw him start against England in a World Cup quarter-final and so nearly snatch a place in the final four, having a goal disallowed.
Towards the end of normal time, the Three Lions did look the most likely to win and it became about getting to extra time for Norway.
That was epitomised by Heggem going down in the third minute of added time, seemingly with 'cramp'.
He was ultimately removed and replaced for extra time before Bellingham netted a winner three minutes into that.
Things certainly didn't go the way of the ex-West Brom man as his potential gamesmanship failed in the end.
How did ex-West Brom man Heggem perform vs England?
The defender may have been taken off in the end, but did still see out the full 90 minutes.
That afforded him plenty of time to prove his abilities and almost did so when he found the net before his tap-in was ruled out for a foul on Elliot Anderson.
He didn't let that define his days work as he still maintained a 93 per cent pass accuracy and chipped in with five defensive actions.
That included two tackles, two clearances and one interception, while he also didn't get dribbled past on a single occasion.
None of that was good enough in the end to secure victory as Bellingham ultimately had a telling say on the result.
Whichever way you look at it, West Brom fans will be proud.
