Former Arsenal and current Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers is keen on staying in the Midlands as West Brom explore a Deadline Day transfer, according to Express and Star.

The local news outlet reported in its transfer blog on 1 February at 11:50 am that the Baggies' interest in the ex Arsenal centre-back.

Chambers has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park and the Telegraph's Mike McGrath reported that talks are ongoing with the Baggies.

Get him in

Mikey Johnston appears to be joining from Celtic and by the looks of it, he's not going to be the only late arrival.

While signing a player from Villa is a tad weird, Carlos Corberan would not care a bit if it sees him strengthening his first team.

Chambers is an experienced defender who'll bring quality to the Baggies backline and also the maturity needed to see out games.

He's capable of playing at right-back and can even play as the right centre-back, giving Corberan the option of changing systems on the go.

Last season, the board did not do enough to ensure the squad was good enough to make it to the play-offs and this time they must not repeat the same mistakes.

Corberan has already shown he's capable of working wonders with this team and it would be foolish not to back him on the final day of the transfer window.
