Will Brayann Pereira start at right-back for West Brom in derby clash vs Wolves?

Brayann Pereira is available for West Bromwich Albion on Sunday when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship.

Pereira, 23, was sent off on his Baggies debut against Derby County last week, receving two yellow cards within the space of eight minutes in the first half.

Despite his red card, James Morrison went on to lead his side to a famous 1-0 victory at Pride Park.

Pereira's available again now, so it begs the question of whether Morrison will recall the summer signing back into his starting line-up, or keep the faith elsewhere.

Nolan Galves is also out of the Black Country Derby at Molineux due to a serious knee injury that was also picking up in the win against the Rams.

So who'll be starting at right-back against Wolves?

James Morrison's right-back options assessed vs Wolves

With Galves definitely out, Morrison has two likely options to start at right-back.

Pereira is available after a suspension but with just 34 minutes played for the Baggies, it'll be a big risk to start him in one of the biggest games of the season.

Callum Styles stepped in at right-back after Galves' injury at Derby and did an impressive job to help defend West Brom's narrow lead.

Morrison kept him at right-back and Conor Townsend at left-back on Saturday in the 1-1 draw with QPR, with Hungary international Styles scoring a delightful goal.

Common sense suggests that Styles will continue at right-back but it's not lost on anyone that the ex-Barnsley star's best position is at left-back.

So does it all depend really on whether or not Morrison wants to stick with Townsend at left-back?

Will Conor Townsend start vs Wolves?

At 33, Townsend is one of the most experienced players in the West Brom squad.

The ex-Ipswich full-back, who returned to The Hawthorns in the summer, did a fine job off the bench at Derby and was again in good form against QPR.

He's a player who's played in the Black Country Derby twice before; he assisted a Mbaye Diagne goal against Wolves in the Premier League in 2021 and also played in the FA Cup loss in 2024.

If he's in good form and can provide experience, then it does make sense to stick with him at left-back.

As a result, that means it's most likely that Pereira will have to make do with a spot on the bench against Wolves.

It's harsh because he's a new signing who's only tried to do his best to make an impression against Derby.

However, right now, he can't really be trusted whereas Styles, playing at right-back, and Townsend, on the opposite side of the pitch, can be.
