Ben Cisse’s position at West Bromwich Albion is in question after the latest goalkeeping developments.

The Under-21s goalkeeper may have been hoping to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding Max O’Leary and Josh Griffiths’ positions.

The Irishman looked like he may leave on a free transfer, but he has penned fresh terms until 2029.

Meanwhile, Griffiths is the subject of interest from Championship rivals Stoke City, but he could also remain at The Hawthorns.

Cisse will be hoping to breakthrough at West Brom shortly, but he may feel like his ambitions are too far away.

What is Ben Cisse’s contract situation with West Brom?

Cisse spent some time last season on loan away from West Brom with Northern Premier League side Rushall Olympic.

He returns with one year left on his contract, and he has not yet decided whether to sign a new deal.

A report from the Stropshire Star on 3 June claims that he is mulling over new terms with the Black Country club.

Who is Ben Cisse?

Cisse joined the Baggies academy at the age of nine, and has often played at a level above his age.

He was part of Richard Beale’s Under-21 side when he was still in the middle of his scholarship, in the 2023/24 campaign.

He has made 34 appearances in that side, with 66 goals conceded and four clean sheets in that time.

Cisse also featured 25 times for Leigh Downing’s Under-18s, with 60 goals conceded and two clean sheets.

The Albion ace also has four caps for the England Under-19 side, but is yet to be capped by the Under-20s for his country.

His potential is very high, but if O’Leary and Griffiths are both staying put, he may face a battle to make it into the senior set-up anytime soon.

He may well be hoping that Stoke formalise their interest in Griffiths, with an official bid, leaving a spot for him to step into.

If they do not, he may decide to quit the club that he has been at for 11 years and move on to a new adventure where he can gain starting experience.
