Cameron Archer could soon change the opinion of former Aston Villa players at West Bromwich Albion.

The striker could soon be on his way to The Hawthorns as a summer move is reportedly on the cards.

Journalist Steve Tudgay reported on Friday said that James Morrison is "very keen" on signing the 24-year-old.

He is said to be unsettled at Southampton and a move away from the South Coast "looks certain" this summer.

The Baggies are in the queue to complete a deal as many sides showcase an interest.

Archer's ties to Aston Villa may worry some, but there is every chance he can buck the trend in B71.

Cameron Archer could become latest to play for West Brom and Aston Villa

There have been plenty of players who have played on both sides of this Midlands rivalry.

There is an element of resentment between the two clubs, but that hasn't stopped deals between the two going through.

Villa have benefitted from that mostly as many academy stars have left the Baggies in a Bodymoor Heath switch.

In recent years the likes of Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba, Tim Iroegbunam, Finn Azaz and Keilan Quinn have swapped B71 for B6.

Archer could turn the tables on that and join the Baggies after playing for Villa and look to change the tide.

He won't be alone in making that sort of move, but it hasn't been particularly successful recently.

Archer has to break Aston Villa curse at The Hawthorns

It feels as though players who have previously starred at Villa Park always tend to struggle in the Black Country.

This season, both Samuel Iling-Junior and Jimoh-Aloba have made the move and both failed to make any sort of impact.

They followed Lewis Dobbin in making that move after he struggled in the campaign prior.

The likes of Marc Albrighton and Robert Snodgrass are other examples that didn't truly pay off as signings.

Sam Johnstone and Gareth Barry can be considered recent anomaly's to the rule, and Archer will hope to sit in that camp.

He has previously proven just how good he can be in the Championship, so has as good an opportunity as anyone else to do so.
