Carter Pinnington is reportedly set to join West Bromwich Albion from Liverpool this summer, but it raises a fresh transfer question.

The Baggies have plenty of work to do this summer from a recruitment perspective if they are to right their wrongs from the previous campaign.

And as per reports on Saturday, they are already closing in on their first addition of the window, with Pinnington set to join.

The teenager has spent the last three years playing for Liverpool's Under-21 side, amassing a total of 68 appearances at that level.

Several other clubs, some of which were said to be in the Premier League, were also believed to be in the mix to sign the defender.

Though his pending arrival poses one vital question for the Baggies.

What is West Brom's plan with Carter Pinnington?

There isn't a single area of the squad in which the Baggies can't upgrade in, though for central defenders, they are fairly well stocked.

And that immediately begs the question as to what the plan with Pinnington will be.

His lack of senior experience makes it highly unlikely that he would dethrone any of the current starting defenders, as does his lack of physicality.

Only 14.3 per cent of Premier League defenders won a lower percentage of their totals than Pinnington last season, who won less than half of those which he was involved in.

Could West Brom sanction an immediate exit for Pinnington?

If the deal goes through as expected, then there is every chance that the Baggies look to seal an immediate loan exit for the teen.

Given what will be at stake this season after such a miserable campaign last term, James Morrison will not want to take any risks, and utilising Pinnington would be a big one.

A loan would give the Baggies a chance to properly assess his current ability, and give him the chance to showcase how good he can be in senior football.

Quite frankly, it would make little sense for him to leave Liverpool's academy just to feature for that of West Brom.
