David Button to find new club imminently as West Brom publish announcement
Goalkeeper David Button has left West Brom and is expected to find a new club immediately, according to Express and Star journalist Lewis Cox.
Cox tweeted on Tuesday (8 August) that the 34-year-old shot-stopper would not take long to find a new side after the Baggies officially announced his departure.
Button's contract was mutually terminated with 12 months remaining, as the Englishman leaves after three seasons at The Hawthorns.
Wanted
While getting older, Button seems to be wanted elsewhere if Cox's announcement is true.
Having amassed plenty of experience over his career, playing for 17 different clubs including Tottenham and Brighton, Button could make a good asset to a low Championship side or League One side.
While it is unknown what club he is expected to move to "immediately", it was perhaps time for him to move on after having a minimal impact with the Baggies since his move in 2020.
Baggies boss Carlos Corberan had left the veteran out of some pre-season clashes in July which, as reported by the Express and Star (19 July), fueled speculation about his departure.
Now this inevitability has come to fruition. Button may have wanted to spend the final year of his career with a more regular role rather than playing second or third fiddle in the Championship.
Button had been in and out of the side throughout his Baggies career, with Steve Bruce dropping him towards the end of the 2021/22 season. Corberan criticised Button directly after a 2-0 loss to Birmingham last season after he was recalled to the side due to an Alex Palmer injury.
As quoted from BirminghamLive (10 February), the boss said: "The second goal, we didn't deal with the corner well - of course the keeper is going to be involved in this situation. It's part of the job of a keeper."
While his Baggies experience may not be a career highlight for Button, Baggies fans will wish him well for the next stage of his career.
