West Bromwich Albion fans are eager for confirmation to drop of midfielder Harry Whitwell's new contract.

The academy product has played a big part in Albion's impressive start to the 2026-27 campaign.

Whitwell has started seven of the Baggies' nine matches in all competitions, five of those in the Championship.

He has already scored two goal and assisted two more, highlighting his importance at such a young age.

There has been no news from West Brom since then, but some clarity has now been shared.

What's now been said about new Harry Whitwell contract?

Whitwell is into the final season of his existing deal, explaining why Albion fans are so eager for fresh terms to be agreed - or confirmed.

Despite the delay, Steve Tudgay - who broke the initial story - has explained via X why supporters should not be worried.

After one fan asked if there's been any sort of update behind the delay, Tudgay replied: "It’s happening, no snags just taking a little bit of time because of fixture schedule. He'll sign."

It goes without saying this is great news for West Brom, and also entirely understandable given the grind of recent Championship and Carabap Cup fixtures.

West Brom are currently on an eight-day break between matches, though, so you would expect confirmation soon.

What are details of Whitwell's imminent West Brom contract?

The initial report claimed Whitwell is to sign on at The Hawthorns for a further four years.

That will help West Brom protect one of their biggest assets when clubs further up the food chain no doubt start circling.

Nobody is daft enough to think Whitwell will necessarily see out the full length of that deal on his current trajectory, but it means West Brom won't be forced into a sale.

For now, the young midfielder is being allowed to flourish in the West Midlands in what is an exciting period for the Baggies.
