Hull City chairman Acun Ilicali admits he is a fan of West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu and it would not be a surprise if he joined the Humberside club this summer.

Ilicali has declared that he is ready to provide new boss Tim Walter with "eight or nine" new players, and this could include compatriot Yokuslu.

Having been linked with a move away from The Hawthorns, Yokuslu's proposed move to Besiktas has broken down with Hull ready to step in, expecting a cash windfall from the anticipated sale of talisman Jaden Philogene.

Ilicali told Turkish publication Gazete Duvar [17 July]: "I like Okay very much and appreciate him very much. Nothing has been finalised. It wouldn't be a surprise if he comes to Hull City."

Hull City plot Yokuslu move from West Brom

In a brazen move from Hull City, Ilicali is certainly talking a good game from the perspective of Tigers fans, who are ambitious about which players could be coming through the door on Humberside.

From Albion's perspective, supporters have been put on the back foot by the potential news with several taking to social media this week to voice their displeasure.

Having travelled with Turkiye to Euro 2024 and with his age of 30 still a positive one for an "engine room" style midfield player, Yokuslu would in usual circumstances be commanding a sizeable fee for West Brom - but his contract has just a year left to run.

Okay Yokuslu
West Brom fans may have settled for losing Yokuslu to a Turkish club - but not to Hull City

Yokuslu is a way away from agreeing any new terms with Carlos Corberan's side and has not played club football in his homeland now for six years, maybe feeling as if a move back to the Super Lig would have sufficed.

That was potentially one Baggies fans could have settled with, but the idea he could move across to a Championship rival would be a considerable blow.
