Hull City deal to sign West Brom star Okay Yokuslu hailed as £25,000-a-week claim made
Carlton Palmer believes that it will be good business for Hull City if they can secure the services of West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu.
Play Sport journalist Ertan Suzgun reported on 10 July that the Turkey international is evaluating his options after turning down a move to Besiktas.
Hull City are also understood to be in the hunt to sign the 30-year-old, according to Sports Digitale's Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, 10 July.
Speaking to Football League World [13 July], Palmer said: "The 30-year-old central midfield player is out of contract next season.
"It is believed that West Brom and the player were well down the line in talks with Besiktas over a three-year deal. However, it seems as if the deal has stalled somewhat and Hull City are the latest club to be linked with him.
“I think West Brom would like to keep him but on a shorter contract and Hull are looking at the deal, and that’s where the problem will be, because a 30-year-old on £25,000 a week for three years is a lot of money.
“He’s out of contract next season, so if Hull want to kick on, they just missed out on the play-offs last year with Liam Rosenior. They’re an ambitious club, and with the sale of players and bringing big money in this might represent smart business for them.
“This could be good business for them because he’s a very good player.”
West Brom must not let go of Okay Yokuslu without a fight
Retaining Yokuslu's services is crucial for the Baggies due to his significant contributions to the team's performance and the potential consequences of losing him to a Championship rival.
The 30-year-old, who played a pivotal role in the Hawthorns outfit's 2023/24 campaign, brings experience and quality to the midfield, making him an asset that would be difficult to replace.
Selling him to Hull would not only weaken West Brom but also strengthen a direct competitor.
Moreover, the financial implications of losing Yokuslu for free next season, given his contract situation, make it imperative for the club to either secure a new contract or sell him to a non-rival club.
Allowing him to leave on a free transfer would represent a significant loss for the club so if Hull are willing to shell out big money, then it makes sense to sell the Turk to them.
If not, there are other European sides waiting in the wings and the possibility of him penning an extension must not be ruled out either.
