West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu has signed a three-year deal with an option of another year at Trabzonspor, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

The Turkish journalist reported via his personal X account [31 July] that the Baggies star is set to leave The Hawthorns after signing permanently from Celta Vigo in the summer of 2022 having previously enjoyed a loan spell in the second half of the 2020-21 campaign.

Footage of the 30-year-old arriving in Turkey emerged on Tuesday 30 July, as per 61saat, with the midfielder about to leave on a deal worth around £1.35million [Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, 29 July].

West Brom set to lose Okay Yokuslu as Trabzonspor contract signed

To say Yokuslu's exit is a huge blow for Carlos Corberan and the Baggies would be an understatement, having become one of the key players in the starting XI over the last two seasons.

He was a mainstay in the heart of the Baggies' midfield, making 89 appearances in all competitions after joining as a free transfer.

He also bagged five goals and the Baggies will now need to work towards replacing him.

While West Brom will find it difficult to find someone to fill the Turkey international's shoes, many at The Hawthorns will feel they had no choice but to sell the player.

Yokuslu has just a single year left on his contract and, with no signs of extending his stay at the club, West Brom could have risked losing him on a free transfer next summer.

While it is disappointing to be losing such an influential player, the extra income from Yokuslu's exit could help seal a couple of decent transfers before the window shuts.

The manager may feel that new signing Ousmane Diakite should be given an opportunity to prove himself, though you sense he will want another player in the centre of midfield once Yokuslu's exit is confirmed.
