West Brom and Preston North End are in negotiations to sign Standard Liege talent Isaac Price, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The Belgian journalist reported via X [17 January] that the Northern Irish player is set to depart his club for the Championship, with a permanent transfer costing between £1.6million and £2.1million.

Price will be involved in Liege's upcoming clash against St Truiden on Sunday 19 January before jetting into the UK on Monday (20 January) to complete a deal in England.

It is understood that the next few hours will be crucial to know which Championship side the 21-year-old will join.

West Brom to finally seal transfer for Isaac Price?

The Baggies were interested in the talented midfielder during the summer transfer window [Sacha Tavolieri], though a move never came to fruition, much to the disappointment of supporters.

While he is capable of playing through the middle or on the wing, he has been utilised in the centre of midfield on a much more regular basis since his move to Belgium.

Price came through the Everton academy, making five senior appearances at Goodison Park before taking a massive risk to move abroad on a permanent move in search of game time.

He joined Standard Liege on a free transfer in 2023 and has since played 62 matches, becoming an integral part of the team over the last two seasons.

The 21-year-old already has 18 appearances for the Northern Ireland national team, also becoming an important player on the international stage, and would be a welcome addition at The Hawthorns.

While Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby are brilliant characters at The Hawthorns and are much-loved figures amongst the fanbase, the reinforcements are not as highly rated.

Uros Racic and Ousmane Diakite have failed to live up to expectations since making their moves to England during the summer, and Price could certainly replace one of them.

Given the former player is only on loan from Sassuolo, it makes far more sense to find a replacement for him, and Price would be a definite improvement.
