West Brom are understood to be chasing Sunderland midfielder Nectar Triantis.

Ryan Mason has added the likes of Nat Phillips, Aune Heggebo and George Campbell but there is more work to be done before the transfer window closes.

The former Tottenham coach currently has Ousmane Diakite, Jayson Molumby and Alex Mowatt at his disposal in the deeper areas, but that is not enough quality or depth for a promotion push.

The Baggies could take advantage of the Mackems' promotion to the top-flight and seal a loan deal for Triantis to bolster the squad.

Triantis would be a great addition for West Brom

If West Brom can secure a loan deal for Triantis, it could be a very clever move from the Black Country club.

He starred on loan in the Scottish Premiership with Hibernian last season and has been compared to Premier League star Rodri.

Charlton, a Sunderland expert, believes that the Australian would thrive at The Hawthorns if he makes the move.

  • Joined Sunderland from Central Coast Mariners in 2023
  • Three appearances in the first loan spell at Hibernian
  • 34 matches with Hibernian last season, named Player of the Year

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, he said: “Nectar Triantis is one of the biggest losers amid Sunderland’s promotion, but West Brom could be the biggest winners from that scenario.

“While on loan at Hibernian, the Australian came into his own and emerged as a key player at Easter Road, but he now needs to progress his career.

“If Sunderland had remained in the Championship, then I think he would have been given opportunities at the Stadium of Light, as he is well-suited to perform in the second tier.

“The Premier League is just a stretch too far for him at the moment, but there is no reason why he cannot play there in the future.

“Triantis has thrived in a defensive midfield role and showed exceptional composure on the ball, with the ability to break up play.

“He would be a solid acquisition for West Brom and can help boost their top-six credentials.”

West Brom need more additions if they are to finish top six

Mason has been backed by Shilen Patel and Co, with the likes of Nat Phillips, Aune Heggebo and George Campbell coming through the doors.

However, if the Baggies are to finish in the top six of the Championship, as the Opta supercomputer has predicted, they need extra bodies.

Reports have suggested that Mason is targeting a central midfielder and a centre-back, so they are looking in the right positions at the very least, especially with concerns around Torbjorn Heggem's future.
