West Brom could sell Alex Mowatt to sign ace Jose Mourinho rated highly - View
West Brom could take a leaf out of Jose Mourinho's book this summer.
The Baggies are seemingly in the market for a new midfield option moving into the new campaign.
James Morrison has already brought in Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan to bolster his forward line, plus Matt Ingram as goalkeeper competition.
His attention could soon change to the middle of the park to join Ousmane Diakite after he penned fresh terms.
That will only be increasingly more likely should Alex Mowatt move after recent links away from The Hawthorns.
The Baggies have shown interest in various names, but could look to someone Mourinho once had a keen eye on.
West Brom could sign youngster who featured under Jose Mourinho at Tottenham
There is likely to be a number of different options assessed in B71 throughout the summer.
Signing experienced players ready for Championship football could prove to be ideal.
That is where Alfie Devine could come in after an excellent year on loan at Preston North End from Tottenham.
He is yet to sign permanently at Deepdale, despite Paul Heckingbottom's side activating a £5million buy option at the end of the campaign.
The Baggies are said to be keeping tabs on him at Spurs, where he made his debut five years ago under Mourinho.
The legendary manager had high praise for Devine back in 2021 when he scored in the FA Cup away to Marine.
Speaking after that clash, the Portuguese said: "He's a kid with good potential. He's basically a midfield player, but with an instinct to appear in finishing zones and to score goals."
That is the sort of talent that Albion need in the middle of the park, but it could spell bad news for Mowatt.
How much could West Brom demand for Alex Mowatt?
It could prove to be a masterstroke to bring in the 21-year-old from Tottenham this summer.
After his eight goals and six assists in the Championship last season, he could make a massive difference in the Black Country moving forward.
The issue at hand will be his transfer fee that could exceed £5m.
For West Brom to get near that, they would need to sell and someone like Mowatt could be an ideal option considering he has already been linked with a move away.
The 31-year-old wouldn't bring in that sort of fee, but after signing him on a free transfer in 2021, any sort of profit would be positive.
Even bringing in between £1m and £2m could be handy and would afford Albion a good starting point should they look to sign Devine this summer.
