West Brom made a late bid to sign Leeds United defender Cody Drameh as the transfer deadline approaches, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reported on 1 September that the 21-year-old has instead decided to join rivals Birmingham City after they have reached an agreement with the Whites to sign him on loan.

The right-back's decision will come as a blow to Carlos Corberan as he is keen to strengthen his defensive options before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Friday.

No Drameh

It will be disappointing to see Drameh decide to join a rival club after West Brom had made an enquiry with Leeds over his services.

The defender looked like he was initially going to head out of Elland Road on a permanent basis to Hull City earlier this summer, but he couldn't agree personal terms with the East Yorkshire side.

Despite impressing on loan with Luton Town in the second half of last season as he helped them earn promotion to the Premier League, he has been deemed surplus to requirements with the Whites following the loan signing of Jed Spence from Tottenham.

The Baggies are keen to bolster their backline, with the order of the day appearing to be a right-back who could come in and compete for a place with Darnell Furlong.

Albion have been linked with a move for US international Reggie Cannon, who is a free agent after leaving Portuguese side Boavista in June, meaning he could be signed after the deadline passes if need be.
