West Brom will only sanction a permanent transfer for Jed Wallace before the transfer deadline amid serious interest, according to DOOD.

The Albion news source posted on X [29 August] the latest regarding the club captain, who is being chased by Luton Town and former club Portsmouth.

Updates on the deal have been active on the source's social media page throughout Thursday morning, with the Baggies not interested in a loan deal for Wallace.

Luton in particular are also potentially preparing an opening offer for the 30-year-old to test Albion's resolve.

With West Brom having performed much of this summer's transfer business under shackles - namely a business plan enforced by the EFL - they are now looking to be a little more ambitious.

As part of that, a deal has been agreed with Celtic for the permanent signing of Mikey Johnston for around £3m [Express & Star, 29 August] - this could in turn allow Wallace to move on.

A respected figure in the dressing room who has been given the armband and senior responsibilities by Carlos Corberan, the openness to letting Wallace go appears to be a sign that the Spaniard rarely intends to use him from the start.

There is still a surprise element to these developments, as Grady Diangana is again back on the treatment table as soon as he was off it and back in a striped shirt, and Tom Fellows continues to be linked with an exit.

But the time could be right for Wallace to pursue another Championship challenge this season.
