West Brom will be fuming with wasted Tim Iroegbunam clause as Eveton sale looms
West Bromwich Albion will watch ons should Tim Iroegbunam make his next his career move this summer.
The defensive midfielder started his career at The Hawthorns after joining the academy in 2009.
He spent the next 12 years in the Black Country, but didn't ever make a first team appearance for the B71 outfit.
The 22-year-old ultimately joined Aston Villa, as joined the trend of youth players switching to Bodymoor Heath.
Iroegbunam forced his way into the first team at Villa Park, but was eventually let go by Unai Emery.
He now finds himself at Everton in a deal that benefitted West Brom financially, but an upcoming move could have been helped them more.
Everton willing to sell Tim Iroegbunam this summer
It hasn't exactly been a dream spell for the Englishman on Merseyside in two seasons there.
He has never quite become a regular for the Toffees, largely due to his inconsistent performances in the middle of the park.
That hasn't made his move from Villa worth it considering he came in for around £10million two years ago.
Iroegbunam has now been linked with a move away from Hill Dickinson Stadium as Ipswich Town have showcased an interest.
Former scout Bryan King believes a move will only been given the green light by the Blues if it brings in a profit.
Speaking to Goodison News, he said: "It's always good to make profit on a player. It will be interesting to see who is in the plans for next season.
"Iroegbunam hasn't been a regular, so if the right offer comes in from the Championship or the lower end of the Premier League, Everton will be very open to a sale."
The Baggies will be happy to see the midfielder get a move for the betterment of his career, but it doesn't seek to benefit them as much as it could have.
West Brom miss out on increased fee from Iroegbunam sale
Albion may have let many of their best young players join the Villans, but they showed some street smarts in those deals.
Sell on clauses were included in many of the agreements, with The Athletic reporting that one featured in Iroegbunam's £500,000 Villa Park switch in 2022.
They typically range between 10 and 25 per cent, so there's a chance that the Baggies earned £2.5m when the defensive midfielder joined Everton.
That would have been a welcome boost at the time, but there is every chance that he sells for an increased price this summer as David Moyes holds out for a profit.
A sale fee of around £15m may be possible and that could have bagged around £3.75m at The Hawthorns.
That would represent an extra £1.25m compared to what they got two years ago, which will be a source of frustration in B71 this summer.
