Why West Brom loanee Alex Williams' fortunes may be about to change at Hibernian
The Baggies gem has featured just once for the Scottish side, in a 3-0 League Cup win against Ross County.
He has not yet featured in the Scottish Premiership, being named on the substitutes bench twice and omitted from the squad on two other occasions.
The Edinburgh side have now appointed Marink Reedijk as their new manager.
While a new boss usually signals a new opportunity for every player, but Williams' fortunes may be impacted more than most.
Reedijk has history with the Baggies, and may be keen to keep those relations on a positive note.
What is Marink Reedijk's connection to West Brom?
Reedijk has worked with the Black Country club previously, and he may even know all about Williams' talent.
According to Reedijk's LinkedIn page, he worked with the Baggies between September 2015 and July 2016 then between September 2017 and July 2018.
While his role was with the Under-15 and Under-16 sides, he may well have been aware of Williams.
The 21-year-old would have been 12 in Reedijk's second stint with the Albion, but the new Hibs boss could have kept an eye on those he would have been working with in the future.
He ultimately departed to join KSV Roeselare in Belgium before Williams made the step up to that level.
Why Reedijk may be perfect solution for Alex Williams
Former Hibs boss David Gray labelled Williams as a "forward-thinking full-back/wing-back" when he initially joined the Scottish club on loan.
He has now departed, but Reedijk may have a rethink on the Albion gem's involvement.
His system utilises aggressive, high-pressing players, which creates the perfect environment for the Baggies loanee to thrive.
He also has a background in youth coaching, and has previously spoken about working with Morgan Rogers in the West Midlands.
He said: "I was working at AFC Ajax in the youth academy with the likes of Donyell Malen, Matthijs de Ligt, Ryan Gravenberch and Brian Brobbey, and then spent time at West Brom with the likes of Morgan Rogers."
He could do the club that he used to work for a huge favour, and turn what was looking like a miserable spell into a very promising one for the Wales Under-21 international.
James Morrison will certainly hope that is the case, as it has not been the best start for Williams away from The Hawthorns.
