West Brom loan star Matheus Pereira was linked with a potential move to Manchester United when the Mirror reported last week that the Premier League club were monitoring the Brazilian.
However an update by the Express & Star reports that there is no truth in Man United’s interest in the 23-year-old, who has been in scintillating form since joining the Baggies on loan from Sporting CP in the summer.
Pereira has scored three goals and supplied nine assists in 15 appearances across all competitions this season, justifying Albion’s decision to reach a pre-agreed permanent transfer fee with Sporting.
West Brom have an obligation to sign Pereira for £8.25million should they win promotion to the Premier League this term but they can also trigger a permanent deal to buy the Brazilian outright from Sporting at any point they wish for the same fee.
It is understood that Pereira has already agreed terms to join the Black Country club on a permanent basis, so it would seem as though the Baggies are prepared to spend that cash on Pereira no matter what the outcome of this season is.
It is a good job there is no truth in the reports about Man United’s interest in Pereira.
Although the Red Devils are not quite the powerhouse of English football they once were, it would be harsh to blame Pereira for having his head turned by the Premier League club.
Luckily, it seems as though that report about United may have been put out there to scare Albion into sealing that £8.25million permanent transfer.
In other West Brom news, Manchester City have set their sights on this Albion teenager.
