View: Nigel Quashie full of praise but claim about West Brom boss Bilic could be wrong

Charlie Austin’s late goal from the penalty spot meant that West Brom kept themselves top of the Championship table with a 2-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Slaven Bilic was forced into a couple of changes ahead of the match with Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers both suspended while Chris Brunt, Nathan Ferguson and Kieran Gibbs were also unavailable for the Baggies.

Semi Ajayi and Filip Krovinovic both started in the central midfield positions and although it was not the best of performances by Albion this term, it was still a performance that earned them three points.

Ex-Baggies player Quashie was full of praise for his former club on Saturday evening with him saying that win proves that West Brom are serious contenders for promotion.

While a lot of fans already knew that, Quashie also claimed that Bilic could face an issue when it comes to Albion’s match against Bristol City in the Black Country on Wednesday.

“If West Brom can win a game like that today with loads of key players out then take this squad seriously to be up there for promotion. Selection headache for Bilic in the next game,” said Quashie via his personal Twitter account after the match.

Does Bilic really have a selection headache?

Yes, West Brom did win against Sheffield Wednesday but the changes that the Croatian boss was forced to make are more than likely going to be reverted back to how they usually are.

Sawyers and Livermore will be available, so fans should expect Ajayi to drop back into the back-four with Hegazi and Krovinovic dropping to the bench.

Ferguson will also be available and while Conor Townsend had a good run at left-back, he showed some worrying signs against the Owls and teenager Ferguson may be straight back into the side.

Hal Robson-Kanu has been leading the line well and is clearly a striker who is high on confidence at the moment.

Despite Austin scoring the winning goal, the Welshman is also likely to start with everyone else sticking to their usual positions.

Bilic does not have a selection headache just yet.

He’s had a relied-upon starting line-up for several weeks and one win without several key players is unlikely to change anything too drastically.

In other West Brom news, fans have raved about this “immense” 28-year-old after the win against Sheffield Wednesday.
