View: Bilic right to get excited after West Brom display v Bristol City

Wednesday night’s display against Bristol City will have sent tremors through the Championship.

This was a game that was seen as a banana skin for the Baggies.

But, if this was a stern test, West Brom passed it with flying colours at The Hawthorns.

Bristol City were lucky to get themselves back in the game with what turned out to be their consolation goal, but the response from the two West Brom strikers – neither of whom have been on top form all season – was magnificent.

Hal Robson-Kanu has come alive in the last few games but it’s still the midfielders that are setting the standard in the Championship.

That’s exactly the word that a delighted Slaven Bilic used to describe his team too.

“When you say that after you have won 4-1 against one of the very top teams who had lost only two games before, it speaks volumes about our performance.

“I don’t want to hide it. Of course, we have to stay humble and down to earth but why not say it? This is a great example, we have done really well.

“We showed physicality, we showed shape and managing the game. We showed one-against-one and pace and skill. We showed everything. We slaughtered them on second balls.

“There is no discussion. This has to be the standard.”

West Brom are bound to have some dips in form between now and the end of the season.

But the side already looks good enough and the squad deep enough to handle anything the Championship can throw at us.

Even Bilic found it hard to conceal his excitement last night.

A win away at Preston on Monday – earmarked as another banana skin by rivals – will really cement West Brom’s title credentials.

In other West Brom news, Charlie Austin has been raving about this team-mate.
